Secretary Schwab Announces Completion of Close-Race Audits
Thursday, November 14, 2024
TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced today the completion of close-race audits for Kansas Senate District 5 (Wyandotte and Leavenworth counties) and Kansas House District 49 (Johnson County).
These audits were automatically triggered because the election night results for these races were within a 1% margin. The close-race audit process involves hand counting every ballot in selected precincts and comparing the hand count to the machine-tabulated vote count. In each of these counties, this additional audit was conducted in 10% of the precincts in the selected races.
“The close-race audits have concluded,” Schwab said. “I appreciate these county poll workers for going the extra mile to ensure additional auditing took place for these tightly contested races.”
