Friday, July 28, 2023

TOPEKA – Kansas Secretary of State Scott Schwab announced the appointment of John Milburn to serve as Special Assistant for Communications and Policy in the Publications Division starting August 21.

“John is well experienced in journalism, communications, and state government, and will be a great asset to the office. I look forward to having John’s new ideas and initiatives to continue enhancing our communications efforts,” said Schwab.

Milburn earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science from the University of Kansas. During his journalism career, he spent 15 years with The Associated Press where he was a member of the statehouse press corps covering Kansas government, education, elections, and military affairs extensively during the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

In 2014, he served as the communications director for Governor Sam Brownback's re-election campaign. Milburn served as the director of legislative and public affairs for the Kansas Department of Administration, and most recently with the Office of the Kansas Attorney General.
