THE SECRETARY OF STATE’S OFFICE INITIATES THE POST-ELECTION AUDIT PROCESS

Tuesday, August 2, 2022

TOPEKA – In accordance with K.S.A. 25-3009 and K.A.R. 7-41-1, the Office of Secretary of State will conduct the random selection of races to be audited from the 2022 primary election. The selection will take place at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, in the Memorial Hall auditorium in Topeka, Kansas.

“Post-election audits promote election transparency and provide verification of election results,” said Schwab. “Since 2019, over 300 post-election audits have been conducted and every county has successfully passed the required audit. I encourage my fellow Kansans to observe the post-election audit process for this year’s primary election.”

Following the Secretary of State’s random selection, each of the 105 Kansas counties will begin a manual count of paper ballots for the races selected for audit to ensure the vote total matches the tabulator count. This event is open to the public and the media.
